Interoperable Solutions Connecting Smart Homes, Buildings and Grids

About the project: The EU energy market is conditioned by digitalisation. New rules and technological developments allow the proliferation of energy service providers in the EU member states with users having full knowledge and control over their appliances. However, interoperability represents a serious problem as a change of provider could mean the replacement of installations. The EU-funded InterConnect project proposes effective energy management using a resilient and practical ecosystem that is user-centric and market-driven. The project involves a range of specialised stakeholders, including advanced technology actors, manufacturers, providers and energy users. Via seven pilots, they will showcase an effective digital market for ensuring energy-efficiency at reduced costs that is beneficial to end-users.

WINGS Role: WINGS ICT Solutions develops software and algorithms for managing and optimizing of power scheduling for energy usage in buildings. WINGS will focus on enabling aggregation of real-time information from various sources, algorithms for extraction of knowledge and predictive analytics about energy consumption and user requirements.
Also, the usage of blockchain will be investigated. All these will lead to optimized decisions regarding the Demand Response system engagement (collaborating closely with other partners). WINGS will also provide solutions for optimized charging/discharging and energy storage for EVs and RES and a platform for conducting pilots for management of utilities.
WINGS will bring the following competences to the project:

WINGS Utility Management Platform (based on the WINGS-ATHENA platform) consisting of:

• Power meters (NB-IoT)
• Water meters, water quality sensors and actuators (NB-IoT)
• Supported communication technologies (e.g. NB-IoT, LoRa/LoRaWAN, Zigbee, Sigfox, Bluetooth), protocols (e.g. ModBus, DNP3, IEC 870-5-104, IoT protocols)
• Data processing and analytics (e.g. complex event processing, predictive analytics, data correlation, data management)
• Visualization platforms
