From 6–9 May 2025, the Flexi-Cross project, funded by the Horizon Europe program, successfully carried out a major demonstration at the Ormenio Border Crossing Point, at the Greece–Bulgaria border.
WINGS ICT Solutions in collaboration with KEMEA, and the Hellenic Police, showcased intelligent and dynamic procedures designed to improve the border-crossing experience through the integration of advanced technologies. In the context of Flexi-Cross, WINGS enhanced its wi.MOVE product with additional capabilities to demonstrate advanced solutions for optimizing the road border-check process. wi.MOVE additionally provided a visualisation dashboard for illegal and unauthorized incidents detection and alerting so that the officers checking the vehicles could take the proper actions. The wi.MOVE visualisation dashboard enables predictive analysis of evolving security threats. Additionally, WINGS developed and trialed a mobile application for the Citizens, a dynamic tool to serve as a two-way communication between travelers passing a border and the administration officers that check for unauthorized entrances and/or transfer of illegal goods.

- Real-time data processing from on-board unit (OBU) sensors
- Machine learning-based automated vehicle inspection & behavioral analytics from video feeds in real-time
- A Citizen mobile application for faster, smarter vehicle and passenger checks using pre-registration
- Integration with the Greek police legacy border control systems with state-of-the-art deployable and mobile checking technologies provided by WINGS
These innovations are set to significantly reduce waiting times, enhance detection and security, and streamline operations at EU border points.
This successful demonstration reflects a significant step forward in our collective effort to build smarter, safer, and more efficient borders across Europe.
